Kurri Kurri Tidy Towns Commitee
Kurri Kurri Tidy Towns Committee was formed 23 years ago (1988), initiated by the then labor councilor Errol Kennedy. Kurri Kurri Tidy Towns was formed, involving the townships of Pelaw Main, Spoin Kop, Stanford Merthyr, Heddon Greta, Loxford, Cliftleigh and Kurri Kurri. Support has come from all sectors of the community, and due to this support, an active committee, participation in tidy towns, the town and our projects has received 38 awards from Keep Australia Beautiful N.S.W. during our 23 year history.
Kurri Kurri was awarded the “overall state winners” award in 1993 as the tidiest
town in N.S.W.
Outcomes of winning the overall state award have been the responsibility of hosting
the following year’s (1994) “Keep Australia Beautiful” awards presentation weekend,
which was a huge undertaking for our committee, with Kurri Kurri hosting 700 visiting
Tidy Towner’s from throughout the state.
