The Kurri Kurri Mural Project
Towns With Heart is a small community group working in the area of Kurri Kurri and the surrounding villages of Abermain, Stanford Merthyr, Weston, Heddon Greta, Pelaw Main and Neath. The program was initiated in an effort to address the local level of unemployment and to facilitate local business growth and development.
In 2003 the group decided to undertake a ‘Mural Project' with the aim of getting
more of the thousands of cars that pass through the town, to stop and see what
Kurri Kurri has to offer.
In less than four years the town has over 40 murals showcasing the areas history, heritage and uniqueness. Visitors now come on buses and in cars to see the magnificent murals and undertake a tour by one of our local guides.
A book ‘ Kurri Kurri – A town of Murals ' featuring the first 38 murals in the series was published in October 2006, and is on sale for $20 until sold out.
Mural Tours with a local 'Mural Guide' are available 7 days a week. The office is opened for bookings on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.
'Mural Guides' are provided free of charge for all tours eating locally. Please download the 'Mural Eateries Brochure' for options.
A gold coin donation is requested for groups not eating locally.
